Primal
Primal – Hand-Forged by Sergey Petrov
This blade, hand-forged by master blacksmith Sergey Petrov, is crafted from a D2 steel analogue, known for its strength, edge retention, and durability. It represents a traditional share of Sakha knives, blending utility with deep cultural significance.
The handle is carved from mammoth bone, featuring ancient cave drawings from the middle course of the Lena River — a sacred site where, over 25,000 years ago, early peoples etched scenes of bear and elk hunts into the cliffs. These carvings, captured in bone, connect the knife to an unbroken lineage of survival and storytelling. A birch cap is skillfully inlaid along the hilt, adding warmth and organic contrast. The guard, also made of mammoth bone, bears a traditional Sakha ornament, uniting material with heritage.
The sheath is made in the traditional way from bull’s tail leather, wrapped around a dry birch insert, as practiced for generations. Like all natural materials, it requires care: store in a dry place, avoid moisture, and treat occasionally with oil to preserve its condition and beauty.
A rare and meaningful piece — a knife that carries the spirit of the Lena, the wisdom of ancient hunters, and the craft of Sakha masters, into the present day.
